Futures vs Forex Prop Firms: Key Differences

Futures and forex prop firms look similar on the surface but differ in important ways. Futures firms usually run one-step evaluations on a monthly subscription or one-time fee, with platforms like NinjaTrader, Tradovate and Rithmic, and they tend to offer fast or on-demand payouts. Drawdowns are often trailing or static end-of-day.
Forex firms more commonly use two-step challenges on MetaTrader or cTrader, with a one-time fee and static percentage-based drawdowns. They frequently allow EAs, news trading and overnight holding, which many futures firms restrict.
Neither category is better — it depends on what you trade and how. Match the firm to your instrument, platform and trading style rather than chasing the lowest sticker price.
